The towns of Barnstable and Yarmouth and villages of Hyannis and Centerville take up a very large part of the central part of Cape Cod, with the villages belonging to the town of Barnstable. Barnstable, with its seven villages offers the largest community, was incorporated in 1639 and is acclaimed for the dramatic appeal of its 8-mile-long Sandy Neck Beach, while Centerville stands out with its picturesque and charming Main Street. Hyannis may be the most well-known of this group of towns and villages, known for being the playground to President John F. Kennedy and the compound in which he and his family stayed during their visit was still the home of Ethel Kennedy until her very recent death. Yarmouth, home to sea captain’s and artist’s museums is the final town we will discuss today, featuring three villages, and if you’re wondering what the common denominator is in all of these places, they are also known for being locations to more of our popular Hyannis vacation rentals and much more!

The Beauty of Barnstable

Sandy Neck Beach and its dunes serve as a protector for the Great Marsh, an area that is ecologically significant for a variety of reasons. You may only go to the beach for a day of fun and frolic while hanging out in Barnstable, but the Great Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary has been known to make naturalists out of ordinary people. Barnstable is also the home to oldest continuously running community theater on Cape Cod, the Barnstable Comedy Club, which has been a major source of laughter and entertainment for over 100 years.

Hanging in Hyannis

As we mentioned before, Hyannis was once the playground for the Kennedys, and today, the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum offers a fascinating array of Kennedy artifacts, memorabilia and stories of the family. If you, like most American’s are interested in how they lived, what they did, and even where they would eat during their times on Cape Cod, in addition to the museum, you can hike along the Kennedy Legacy Trail, take a tour by water checking out the compound from a distance (it is a private property and is still very much in use by the Kennedy family) or even take a tour via bus of the area. Baxter’s, a restaurant the Kennedys frequented, is still very much in business and is famous for its fresh seafood and its long history on Cape Cod.

Savoring Centerville

There are supposedly only two sure things in life—death and taxes—but we would like to add a third item to that. Ice cream and summer go hand in hand, and when you stay in Centerville, even as it is a historically significant Barnstable village, we highly recommend a visit to Four Seas Ice Cream, a local tradition for over 90 years! Located on Centerville’s iconic Main Street, it’s a great spot to enjoy flavors from the past and all its ice creams are made fresh with locally sourced ingredients.

Say Yes to Yarmouth

Arrgh, it’s a rough life for a pirate, and if you are curious about the reasons why, a visit to the Whydah Pirate Museum in West Yarmouth will bring you the answers you seek. Exploring the history of pirates and offering treasures, artifacts, and memorabilia from real pirates, most of which having been brought up from the sea floor where it lay for centuries after wrecking in angry waters, this museum pays homage to pirate history recovery.

We Are There

It can be difficult during our travels finding a home that brings comfort and luxury to our vacation experiences, but you have made your way to our New England Vacation Rentals page and we are the exception that proves the rule. Offering properties in the towns and villages that lie all over Cape Cod, each space may be different in style and amenities, but all share one common trait, that of welcoming and warmth, no matter which one you choose to make your own. Many Centerville vacation rentals will offer stunning ocean front views, with the weathered gray clapboard siding on the cottages seeming to jump from the screen of a Hallmark movie and all will offer comfort to those who reside within.

The Amenities Make the Difference

We believe that a vacation rental should be an integral part of your vacation experience, and the amenities found inside offer all the proof. Fireplaces in living rooms, and some bedrooms, will provide warmth and romance on stormy nights, state of the art televisions may never be watched (you’re too busy doing other things!) but are good to have when you just need a little downtime. Board games and game tables, barbecue grills and patio tables, lobster pots and blenders; everything you need to make your vacation dreams come true will be found inside all our rentals, not just the ones in Barnstable, Centerville, Hyannis, and Yarmouth. Reserve your favorite Cape escape today!
