No matter your nationality, there is one day of the year where everyone in the world shares the same ancestry. March 17, 2020 is the day the world becomes Irish as we celebrate Massachusetts Saint Patrick’s Day in a variety of ways, most of which include green beer! It’s time to don all the green we can find in our closets to avoid being pinched, head to our favorite watering hole with friends and family, and on occasion, watch a parade that celebrates the man and saint known as Patrick. All this happens all over the world, but on Cape Cod, it may be the traditional lobster roll that accompanies your green beer instead of corned beef!

Come Early for This Celebration

Although traditionally the holiday is celebrated on March 17th, we on Cape Cod do things our own way, and our St. Patrick’s Day Parade is held on March 7th in Yarmouth. Offering a unique selection of whimsical floats that honor the best of the Cape as well as the good times found on this day, it was the K9 unit who marched with their faithful “fur missiles” that was talked about most in 2019! The Devil’s Purse Brewing Company will be unveiling their newest beer, a special fundraiser will be held, and the theme Irish Sporting Pastimes will offer unique ways to decorate the floats or to dress for the occasion. The Colleen Queen and her court will be crowned, Irish step dancers will be stepping up to the start line, and the “Kiss me, I’m Irish” buttons, banners, and bibs will be flooding the parade route!

It’s All About the Music

Irish music has long been a favorite of Cape Codders, and on March 15th at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, Rose Clancy and Max Cohen will be offering a St. Patrick’s Day Concert of Traditional & Contemporary Celtic Music, much to our delight! Costing $18 per person for general admission and lasting from 2:30 PM until 6:30 PM, this precursor to one of our favorite holidays promises to be everything you’ve been waiting for!

The Drinking of the (Green) Beer

And finally, every beer will go down smoothly, no matter what the color, when you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Cape Cod’s Irish Pub in Northwest Harwich! Green eyes may count for your something green, but just to be safe, you may want to keep a green beer in your hands the entire night of March 17th to avoid being pinched at this festive and casual watering hole!
