3 Easy New England Recipes to Cook in Your Vacation Rental
It’s no secret that some vacations can be a bit costly, but there are ways to save money while still having a great time, especially when you choose New England Vacation Rentals for your vacation accommodations! Staying in a home near many of the activities you want to participate is one way; a beach cottage may cost a little more initially, but if you want to spend most of your time at the beach, you eliminate the cost of transportation and activity fees. One of the easiest ways of saving money during your Cape Cod getaway, however, is by taking advantage of our fully equipped kitchens. These three easy New England recipes will ensure that you won’t have to spend much time doing chores!
New England Baked Beans
Get into the Cape Cod spirit with the creation of this easy side dish that will taste great with the chicken you just threw on the grill! Many recipes start with dry beans for that true authentic taste, but you want simple, so grab a can or two of Bush’s Baked Beans from Ring Bro’s Marketplace in the Harney’s Plaza in Dennis and cut the prep time in half! Fry up some bacon (1/2 pound of thick cut should do the trick), chop up an onion, add half a cup of brown sugar, ¼ cup of Worcestershire sauce, 2 cloves of garlic, a splash of maple syrup, and mix it all together, baking at 350 degrees for about an hour. Enjoy!
Seasoned Crab Cakes
Seafood is a popular choice on the Cape and these easy crab cakes promise to be a favorite that you can prepare over and over again! Starting with a visit to Shaw’s, our local grocery store found in most of the villages, you’ll need to purchase 3 six-ounce cans of crab meat, enough bread to make a cup of cubed pieces, 2 large eggs, mayonnaise (3 tablespoons), half and half (also 3 tablespoons), 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 ½ tablespoons of seafood seasoning (Old Bay is popular), 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce and salt, ½ cup of dry bread crumbs, and ½ cup of canola oil. Mix the crab and bread cubes in one bowl, and everything else (minus the breadcrumbs and oil) in a second bowl, then blend the two bowls into one. Make patties out of the mixture, chill for 2 hours, then dip in breadcrumbs and fry in hot oil for 4 to 5 minutes on each side.
3 Ingredient Hazelnut Brownies
We sincerely believe brownies should have their own space on the food pyramid, and these simple and delicious ones will bring a smile to your face with every bite! Simply pick up your favorite brand of hazelnut spread, eggs, and flour at the Chatham Village Market. Mix together 13 ounces of hazelnut spread, 2 eggs, and ½ cup flour. Pour into a greased square baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. You can thank us for this dessert later!
