During a Cape Cod vacation, we at New England Vacation Rentals encourage our guests to get outside and play as often as possible. The Cape Cod landscape is inviting and fun, especially as the Cape Cod Rail Trail leads guests on a hike or bike ride through six different towns. Extending out over 25 miles, the scenery that you pass during your bike ride of fun is destined to be your favorite part of your Massachusetts adventures, and when you realize that all trails lead you right back to the most comfortable places to rent on Cape Cod (Those would be our homes, of course!), the fun and joy gets taken to the next level of wonderful.

The Cape Cod Rail Trail
There are plenty of paths, roads, and trails that will be perfect for riding bikes along during your Cape Cod adventures, and most will be located reasonably close to your vacation retreat, but the Cape Cod Rail Trail is the most famous and the longest, built to follow along the old railroad right of way, extending out over just over 25 miles. Beginning in Yarmouth and ending in the town of Wellfleet, the trail is also used for hikers and joggers and is paved for convenience, leading hikers, bikers, and joggers through some of the Cape’s most stunning landscape, providing views that never fail to speak to the hearts of those who witness them.
Our Yarmouth Escapes
The Cape Cod rental properties we offer in Yarmouth range between 2 and 5 bedrooms in size and offer the space for up to 10 guests, depending on the size of the home. These are standalone homes and cottages, often offering the clapboard siding travelers expect from a New England style escape, and many provide gardens of hydrangeas and large backyards furnished with patio tables, chairs, grills, and firepits, giving guests more ways to play outside after riding along the trail.
Next Stop, Dennis
The great thing about the Rail Trail is the realization that you don’t need to ride from start to finish, 25.5 miles is a long ride for youngsters or beginning bikers, and when you are staying in one of our Dennis retreats, you can just hop on the trail that is closest to your rental. Our Dennis properties consist mostly of smaller clapboard sided cottages filled with charm and New England style, but there are a few larger ones that would be perfect for those with large traveling groups.
Happy Go Lucky Harwich Homes
As we continue our tour of the Cape Cod Rail Trail and the New England Vacation Rentals properties that can be found nearby, our next stop takes us to Happy Go Lucky Harwich. Given the nickname by Queen Elizabeth in the late 16th century and its good cheer has been acknowledged by Coastal Living magazine through this millennium. The places to rent on Cape Cod we provide in this cheerful town reflect that good mood, perhaps because most offer waterfront views and everyone knows it is impossible to be unhappy when sitting at shore’s edge!
The Beauty of Brewster
The railroad ran through Brewster, and today it is known for being a stop on the Cape Cod Rail Trail, but Brewster is actually known for being the sea captain’s town, due to the large number of sea captains who made their homes here and are still standing today. No sea captains lived in the New England Vacation Rentals sanctuaries we feature in Brewster, but their comfort and simple charms will make each property an integral part of your vacation experience, providing the ideal spot to relax and recover after your journey on the rail trail.
Orleans and Its Military History
Each town and village of Cape Cod offers a personality that is distinctively their own, and Orleans, the next town that the Cape Cod Rail Trail wanders through, is known for its military history, making our homes popular ones for military buffs. Orleans was the only US site attacked by Germans during WWII, but the peaceful ambience of our Cape Cod rental properties in this town will make you forget its “fighting” past. Offering cottages with as few as 1 bedroom (an ideal honeymoon escape) and as many as 4 bedrooms (families love to stay in Orleans), these retreats blend modern décor and classic New England style, giving guests a vacation experience they will love.
Almost at the End in Eastham
The ride through Cape Cod has been a leisurely one and the second to last town, Eastham, is home to some of our most popular spaces. Offering all the comforts of home and also located close to the sea, guests can choose between beach days and bike rides on the trail, knowing that all trails and roads lead back to New England Vacation Rentals.
All’s Well in Wellfleet
The trail ends in Wellfleet and although we don’t, at the moment, offer any properties in this charming seaside town offers a strong seafaring history that deserves to be explored.
