Although you may think of Cape Cod primarily as a summer vacation destination, there is something wonderful about a vacation here no matter the time of year, and one of our favorite times of year is around Veterans Day. We are so proud of the way the towns and villages offer ceremonies and events in addition to the standard free or discounted meals at many restaurants, and we are equally proud that veterans, all travelers actually, will be able to relax in comfort and peace in our New England Vacation Rentals holiday hideaways. Below, we have provided a sampling of the activities you can enjoy as the Veterans Day on Cape Cod gives its thanks to all who have served.
A Barnstable Veterans Day, Hyannis Village Green and Barnstable Town Hall
Offering a solemn and heartfelt ceremony, the Barnstable Veterans Day celebration starts with a prayer and ends with a brunch, filling the moments in between with the Pledge of Allegiance, speeches, and the laying of the wreaths by the Boy Scouts. Also offering a documentary film will be shown at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable and providing free entry to the JFK Hyannis Museum for veterans and their families, Barnstable really steps up to the plate in their efforts to pay homage to those who serve.
Veterans Day in Bourne, Massachusetts National Cemetery
Operation Flags for Veterans meet with volunteers at the cemetery to place flags on each of the 79,000 graves that reside within. After, a 45-minute ceremony begins with a procession of local military groups, marching down Flag Avenue to gather around the main flagpole at the rostrum.

Brewster Remembers, Brewster Council on Aging, 1673 Main Street
It’s more speeches and invocations in Brewster, honoring those who have served, but it is the moment of silence in honor of fallen military members that will move you and make you glad you chose Cape Cod to celebrate Veterans Day.
Flags in Dennis and Music in Orleans and Eastham

Nearly every town on Cape Cod will offer some sort of ceremony to honor veterans, and because we at New England Vacation Rentals are located in nearly every town, you won’t have far to go. In Dennis, they have the Field of Honor, in which hundreds of flags are placed in Johnny Kelly Park, and in Orleans and Eastham, the ceremony and prayers will be accompanied by patriotic music.
