Sometimes when you take a vacation, you discover too late that the trip you’ve put so much time and money into is to a place where children are considered second-class citizens—unwelcomed, undesired, and ignored. And when your kids aren’t having a good time, the entire vacation can be ruined.
Fortunately, this is something that won’t happen when you take a Cape Cod vacation! There are many activities, sightseeing attractions, restaurants, and museums that cater to the shorter members of your family! The Cape Cod Children’s Museum in Mashpee, MA is one such establishment, built to ensure your children feel important, too, and it’s one of our favorite places to take our kids to “burn off steam!” Tired children sleep well in our New England Vacation Rentals homes, allowing mom and dad to have some alone time!
The History of the Children’s Museum in Cape Cod
In a state where we celebrate and honor the old, sometimes it is necessary to offer the same accolades to the new, and in 1990, three young moms saw a need for something more, bringing to life the Cape Cod Children’s Museum in 1992. The first 10 years were spent in a local mall, with the museum concentrating on science programs for preschoolers and older children. Today, it is housed in an 8000-square foot building in Mashpee and is beloved by locals and visitors alike.
Today
Making science fun is a huge part of what the Children’s Museum in Cape Cod is all about, with interactive exhibits that entertain while educating. Featuring arts, crafts, and story times led by volunteers all located inside a brightly colored building that protects future scientists from the elements, they also allow you to rent the museum for birthday parties and other special events for a very reasonable fee.
Special events occur at various times throughout the year, varying from fundraising bowl-a-thons to family oriented activities designed to help children with their problem-solving skills. The next family tinker event is going to be held on Wednesday, February 28th. You can check out what other upcoming events are at this website: http://www.capecodchildrensmuseum.org/.
