New England Top Family Attractions in Cape Cod

Cape Cod is a place of rich history and rich beauty. The two come together here more so than any other place in the United States. This is especially true of the historic village of Provincetown as this was the site where the first pilgrims landed in what is now the United States in 1620. Thousands of people flock to the shores of Provincetown every year to soak up that history and there is perhaps no better place to do this than at the Provincetown Library.

The Library’s History

Looking at the history of the library provides a unique glimpse into the history of the town as a whole. Nathan Freeman built it as a gift to the town in 1873. It was a beautifully quaint building that featured countless windows and a charming mansard roof. After its completion, it served as the public library on the first floor, headquarters for the YMCA on the second floor and a studio for photography on the third floor. It served as a center for the exchange of ideas and the learning of new ones. It was the subject of multiple renovations before the library was moved to its current place.

The Library Today

In 2005, the library was given a new home in what was formerly the Center Methodist Church. This is another of Provincetown’s beautiful historic buildings and it surely gave the library a wonderful new home. It still has an old-fashioned feel, but the library is home to many progressive events and movements that you can enjoy every day throughout the entire year. Both the former library and the current library are amazing places to visit and feel an incredible sense of history in one of the oldest towns in the country.

This is a great place to visit during your time in Cape Cod because it is beautiful and historically significant and it is FREE! You can’t really beat that winning combination.
