If you are in Cape Cod looking for things to do this weekend in Chatham or Harwich, consider attending one of the many Chatham, MA events and festivals that take place throughout the year.

Harwich Cranberry Arts & Music Festival

The clay-like, nutrient-dense soil of Cape Cod is perfect for growing cranberries. The Cape is known for its acres of cranberry bogs and each year they celebrate the small red fruit at the Harwich Cranberry Arts & Music Festival.

The event is free to the public and takes place every year in mid-September during cranberry season. The two-day event is held on Saturday and Sunday behind the Harwich Community Center on Oak Street. The festival celebrates cranberries, the farmers who grow them and the people who eat them. Each year more than 150 vendors set up their booths and sell everything including local art, baked goods, clothing, jewelry, flowers and handmade items. A good amount of the items sold are cranberry related.

In addition to booths, the Harwich Cranberry Festival also has live music. The Cranjam, as it’s called, features local and regional acts. Both the Cranberry Festival and the Cranjam are free to the public. It’s definitely one of the best Chatham, MA events to experience!

At the end of the night on Saturday evening, the festival puts on a fireworks show. A portion of the money raised during the Harwich Cranberry Festival goes towards scholarships to help local students attend college.

Festival of the Arts

Every year during the middle of August, Cape Cod’s Festival of the Arts is held at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham. The three-day event is free to the public and features more than 120 booths selling unique handmade items, including clothing, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, glass and much more. There is also a children’s tent which has plenty of fun activities for your kids, including face painting. If you get hungry, the festival has an area featuring several local food trucks.

Summer Concert Series

During the month of July, Cape Cod holds its annual summer concert series. The concerts are held every weeknight from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday night concerts are held in Harwich in Brooks Park and Wednesday night concerts are held in Chatham at Kate Gould Park. When you’re in Cape Cod looking for things to do this weekend, make sure to visit these concerts, they are family-friendly and free to attend
