Although there are many differences in the beaches on the Cape, one common characteristic they all share is an undeniably rugged beauty that will tug at your heartstrings and have you reaching for your camera. South Cape Beach on Cape Cod is a smaller beach, only about a mile long, and relatively narrow as well, but it’s one of our more popular beaches in the summer, so be prepared to walk a bit to find a spot for your towel and umbrella. If you happen to be visiting during the fall, long walks on the beach with your faithful pet galloping beside you will be the highlight of both yours and Fido’s vacation, but from April 1 through September 30, please leave your fur baby at your pet friendly New England Vacation Rentals hideaway; pets are forbidden during these months. Beach accessible wheelchairs are available for rent in the summer, but there are a limited number, so be sure to get there early.
South Cape Beach State Park is a wonderful area for hiking and for fishing, and is a part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Information regarding rules of the beach, maps of hiking trails, and lists of wildlife you can expect to find in the area can be found at Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve Headquarters and Visitor Center, just a short way inland; this is where you can pick up parking passes as well. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season, making this beach a safe place to swim, as long as you follow their instructions!
